Netherlands move for Meath

Jackie Maguire, Chief Executive, Meath County Council

I’ve been writing recently about how close we are both physically and culturally with the United States. We’re less than fourteen hours from Silicon Valley and half that time from Meath to Manhattan. In a connected world, we really are only just ‘down the road’, making Meath, with Dublin airport right on its doorstep, the ideal location for any business that needs to make meetings, engage with customers, deliver goods and services, quickly to anywhere in the world.

Great news

This morning there’s great news from the other side of the world with the announcement from the Dutch airline giant KLM that it’s doubling the number of its flights from Dublin to Amsterdam, starting at the end of the month. The airline had previously said it would launch a twice daily flight to @Schiphol Airport (one of the world’s largest air hubs) but already, due to traffic, they’ve decided to double that number.

The other side of the world

I mention ‘great news from the other side of the world’ because the @KLM connection brings China and Hong Kong closer to Meath. And with Brexit truly looking like becoming a reality (British Prime Minister Theresa May could have them out of the EU within two years) Irish and international businesses need to find pastures new until we find out what #Brexit will actually do to the UK economy.

Hello! Is it you we’re looking for?

There are Meath people all over the world. If you’re among them, or connected with them, it might be useful to remind them about Meath’s ever growing connectivity. Not alone is it making it easier for our exiles to come home (welcome home!) but it means that if they’re involved in businesses overseas and if those businesses are expanding the case for locating in Meath becomes even more compelling. We’re working hard with all the State agencies to make sure that Meath is recognised internationally as Europe’s most business friendly region. We’re telling the world to #MakeItMeath

Ready, steady, go!

You can also tell anyone with a business that our Enterprise Team is ready to do the hard lifting. That’s how much we want the business. As soon as we hear that a company is interested in Meath we’re ready to go, ready to get a project over the line, quicker, easier and with less red tape than anywhere else. After all, that’s what business wants and we want business.
