Meath ticks all of the US’s boxes

Jackie Maguire , CEO, Meath County Council

I’ve just been on the US government’s @SBSgov site, the American small business agency, where I came across a useful checklist of what a business should look for when seeking a location for their enterprises. I’m delighted to say that Meath ticks all of the US’s boxes, and then some. So let’s have a look at what they tell you to look out for…Besides all the usual things such as understanding the law of the land and the level of taxes they also tell you to consider;

  • Brand Image – Is the location consistent with the image you want to maintain?  Meath is green, clean and some of the world’s best known brands have chosen Meath so you’ll be in good company.
  • Competition– Are the businesses around you complementary or competing? Meath is like Dublin but better because you have all the benefits of proximity to the capital but without the hassle that being based in a city brings.
  • Local Labor (this is the American checklist after all!) Market– Does the area have potential employees? What will their commute be like? We have oodles of highly skilled and educated people, currently commuting to Dublin every day, who would love to work with you in Meath
  • Plan for Future Growth – If you anticipate further growth, look for a building that has extra space should you need it. Though next to Dublin, most of Meath is beautifully rural with massive room to grow your business
  • Proximity to Suppliers – They need to be able to find you easily as well.  Our HQ in Navan is 40 minutes from Dublin Airport and not much more to the seaport. We are very close. Period.  Safety – Consider the crime rate. Will employees feel safe alone in the building or walking to their vehicles? Hey, this is Meath, Ireland. Just not an issue.
  • Zoning Regulations – These determine whether you can conduct your type of business in certain properties or locations. The dedicated Meath Co.Co. Enterprise Team is already in place to help business go from planning to production.
  • Government Economic Incentives – Your business location can determine whether you qualify for government economic business programs, such as state-specific small business loans and other financial incentives.

Is the Area Business Friendly? In a word? Yes. Meath is recognised as being Europe’s most business ready region.
